Goals for weekending May 30th

My goals for week ending May 30th:
1. 500 words in my journal each morning.
My goal is to complete this in the first lap of my daily walk. It’s a low traffic neighborhood and I won’t be looking down the entire time. Also, I feel most creative in the mornings.

2. Walk 5k each day.
As of this writing, I am on day six. I would really like to make it to day 12 next Saturday. The goal is to wake up early and walk two laps around the neighborhood. This past week, I missed one morning. That walk was completed in the afternoon. I am going to build some wiggle room into this challenge. If I miss a day due to weather or scheduling, I have 24 hours to make it up. Let’s face it. Things happen. My challenge, my rules.
Why am I walking and not running? I am still recovering from the heel injury. Better safe then sorry.

3. Devote an hour of play with the kids after school for four days.
I. We’d to do more of this. I said three on Facebook because they are not in school on Monday (Memorial Day). This was changed to four here because it’s important and I need to spend more time with them. Please don’t read this and think I don’t spend any time with the little people. I drive them to school each morning, lead their Cub Scout den and coach one of their soccer team. This is a dedicated hour.

4. Write a blog post each morning to build the writing practice. I probably won’t publish them for a while, but I want to start this habit.
Writing has always been a challenge for me. As I get older, I want to get better at doing it. You know, to work on the memoir every old person wants to write. Just kidding. I’m writing an autobiography. I am working on a wellness adventure website and we do need content.

5. Be more awesome and sexy than the previous day.
Nuff said.
If you’re reading this and follow me on social media you know this will be the easiest one to do.

My main goal is to focus on number five, the rest will come into line

Be awesome!

Be big sexy!

Indy Walk Saturday, March 30th, 2013 @ 9am EST.

This weekend. Walk, run, or crawl a 5k. You have until today until Sunday to complete this goal. Many of you have been training. That’s awesome. There are group runs in New Jersey, Minnesota, and Indianapolis. The Indianapolis run, walk, crawl is meeting on the Monon Trail at 111th street at 9am Saturday morning. We’ll be walking north from 111th to the other side ofthe  bridge and back. That’s tomorrow. Come out and join us. This is not a race. Just a fitness walk. It will take as long as it takes you. There’s no cut off time. Also, it’s free.

Here’s the Minnesota info.

MN-Meeting at Lake Calhoun @ 9am. There is more info on the Facebook event page.

Event Two, The American Heart Association’s National Walking Day

Wednesday, April 3rd 2013 @ 5pm EST.

This is their annual event to get people active. They want you to walk for thirty minutes on this day. I encourage you to get moving. Get out and walk. If you wait for a parking space close to the door when shopping, take it slow. Try parking at the rear of the parking lot.

At one point in my life, the only speed walking I did was to race to the buffet to beat out some senior citizen to get the last dinner roll.

There’s a group walking on the Monon Trail at 5pm on April 3rd. We are meeting at the 96th street parking lot. We’ll walk 15 minutes north and back. This walk should be about two miles long. We’ll walk to 106th street and back.

Here’s the Facebook event page.

Both events are free. Hope to see you on the trail.

Get Off The Couch Walking Club

Who is going to join us to walk tomorrow?

If you want to get off the couch and start exercising, will are walking from the 96th street Monon Trail Lot at 9 am. This is for people of all abilities.  Last week, we walked up to 116th street and back.  It took a little over an hour.  If you can’t walk four miles, start by coming out to the trail and walking a mile or two.

The Get Off The Couch Walking Club

Last Saturday, a group of us met on the Monon Trail and walked four miles.  We got off the couch and exercised.  The original goal was to complete three miles, but at the turn around point we decided to go a little further.  It was just a couple of people walking and talking.

The point of this club was just to get off the couch and exercise.  If you couldn’t join us, I encouraged people to walk “with” us by walking in thier neighborhood.  If they couldn’t do the original three miles, I tried to encourage them to show up and do what they could do.  I think that more people would get out and do some sort of exercise if there were other, like themselves, will to do the same.

We will have another group walk this Saturday, March 26th. If you want to join us – come to the 96th Street lot on the Monon Trail. We meet at 9 am and leave at 9:15am.  For more info, leave a note here or on the Twitter @bgkahuna.

Take Care and Hope to see you there,
