Good morning my big sexy soldiers!
Can you believe summer is coming to an end? The little people are heading back to school. It seems like just yesterday I was posting a beginning of summer message.
Best of luck getting back into the school year routines. What life hacks do you have to share to make this transition easier?
As always, be awesome and be big sexy!
I love you all, even the two people who I saw fighting over a $1 spiral notebook.
Also, we are creating another #KahunaAdventure that I can’t wait to share with you. Always keep adventuring.
My goals for week ending May 30th:
1. 500 words in my journal each morning.
My goal is to complete this in the first lap of my daily walk. It’s a low traffic neighborhood and I won’t be looking down the entire time. Also, I feel most creative in the mornings.
2. Walk 5k each day.
As of this writing, I am on day six. I would really like to make it to day 12 next Saturday. The goal is to wake up early and walk two laps around the neighborhood. This past week, I missed one morning. That walk was completed in the afternoon. I am going to build some wiggle room into this challenge. If I miss a day due to weather or scheduling, I have 24 hours to make it up. Let’s face it. Things happen. My challenge, my rules.
Why am I walking and not running? I am still recovering from the heel injury. Better safe then sorry.
3. Devote an hour of play with the kids after school for four days.
I. We’d to do more of this. I said three on Facebook because they are not in school on Monday (Memorial Day). This was changed to four here because it’s important and I need to spend more time with them. Please don’t read this and think I don’t spend any time with the little people. I drive them to school each morning, lead their Cub Scout den and coach one of their soccer team. This is a dedicated hour.
4. Write a blog post each morning to build the writing practice. I probably won’t publish them for a while, but I want to start this habit.
Writing has always been a challenge for me. As I get older, I want to get better at doing it. You know, to work on the memoir every old person wants to write. Just kidding. I’m writing an autobiography. I am working on a wellness adventure website and we do need content.
5. Be more awesome and sexy than the previous day.
If you’re reading this and follow me on social media you know this will be the easiest one to do.
My main goal is to focus on number five, the rest will come into line
Be big sexy!
The Kahuna’s got a chance to experience the WTHR Health & Fitness Expo at the Indiana State Fairgrounds Exhibition Hall. As many of you know, we have recently re-started our fitness lifestyle. We take the little people to play at the park. Michelle and I have Fitbit challenges to see who can complete more steps in a day and I am hosting a You Can Donut 5k. FYI I am undefeated in the Fitbit challenge. The health expo let the kids try some activities for the first time.
MaM and The Fox took an introductory tennis course, went through a gymnastics obstacle, and watched a USA Gymnastics presentation with a trampoline.
The most exciting part for MaM was racing Michelle through the obstacle course sponsored by the Indiana State Police. MaM and Michelle completed burpees, a medicine ball carry, and big tire push. I’ll let you read her account of this on her blog at Gotchababy.
One of the highlights was the family portrait/bike race on the Nine 13 Sports bike exhibit. I won three races. The best part, for me, was watching MaM helpThe Fox finish the race by helping him peddle.
The health expo goes through today at 5pm at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. For tickets, go to WTHR.com/EXPO. For free tickets, enter the promo code HEALTH. Hope you can check it out.
Disclosure: I was given free admission to the health expo in exchange for posting about the event on social networks. You can follow my crazy on Twitter and Instagram with the #13HealthExpo hashtag
What can I say? I can make excuses about going to my daughter’s basketball game and eating a hot dog after 7pm, going to a Super Game Party at my friend’s church where I had an extra bowl of chili, or having a heavy beer on Saturday night. It really doesn’t matter. I made this choices. I have to live with them.
I made those choices and I’m cool with that. Why? I’m human and I had some fun. I enjoyed the company of friends and watched some football. I knew that Monday is a brand not ew day and I’ll just work harder this week.
Why am I sharing this with you? Because I want to share what I was thinking when this happened. You get back up and keep moving forward. Even with the failures of this past weekend, I am really happy with my progress. January was a successful month. Fortunately, it’s still early in. February.
Be safe and take care.
Today’s ThinkKit prompt was to write a mantra for the year ahead, how you’ll approach it, and what you wish it to be. One montra I wrote earlier this year was “Just Donut!”. It’s a combination of two of my favorite things, donuts and not making excuses.
This montra is also meant to make people smile when they hear it. Because let’s face it, you have to be a pretty dark souled person if you don’t smile when someone says the word donut. “Mmmmmmmmmm donuts.” ~ Homer Simpson
When I read social media posts that say “I hope to….” or “I really wish I could……” I will usually respond with just donut. “Don’t think, just do.” ~ Yoda. So many times, we’ve already prepared for the task in our head. I do this a lot too. We get caught on the hardest part of doing something new. Yes, we just need a kick in the ass to start. Once we start, the train is moving and it’s easier to keep the momentum going.
So many people are overcome by the entire project. They can’t see the beginning, the middle, or the end. They see a giant deathstar of a project that needs to be completed or they over analyze the entire project and become hesitant to start because they think they need more time to properly plan.
Next time you are working yourself up before starting a new project. Take a deep breath and just donut.
