Big Sexy Soldier Dispatch – April 2nd Edition

Good morning my big sexy soldiers!

How are you all doing?

Things have been going well here. We are wrapping up spring break. We survived.

I have been listening to a lot of podcasts lately. They have challenged me. They have shared content talking about stepping outside my comfort zone. I am working on a positivity manifesto. This is going to be the Kahuna Awesomeness Positivity Manifesto.

This living document is going to be my road map to living an awesome life. Is my life awesome, to me yes. To you, maybe not. But guess what, I am pretty okay with that. A friend told me a story this past week, one of the key phrases was this, “You do you, Boo!”.

This my be the first element of the Kahuna Awesomeness Positivity Manifesto.

Be awesome!

Be big sexy!

You do you, Boo!

I love you all.

Have an awesome day!

Kahuna Posistivty Manifesto – Adventures with Friends. August 18th, 2016

Good morning Big Sexy people!
Happy Thursday!
A couple weeks ago, the Kahuna’s visited an indoor water park resort. This place also had a wizard adventure for the kids. You know, you go around the resort with a wand and collect virtual things. Basically, four floors near the atrium of kids running around with plastic sticks thinking their wizards.
The kids founds other children their own age to go on this adventure with. Before they started exploring, we met the kids and their parents. Then, we let them go on this magical adventure.
The point of this post, adventures are a lot more fun with friends. The Kahuna Kid’s ran through out the wizard play area for hours. These kids had no idea who these kids were but they were brought together through this game. After an hour into the game, you would have thought they were friends for ever. And these kids interacted with other kids in a decent manner. There were some kids who were being mean, is happens. What did my kids do when faced with the mean kids? They moved on and didn’t let these idiots ruin a fun time.

We should be this open to new adventures with friends. Make plans to have lunch with someone other than eating alone. Find a friend to hit the gym at lunch time. Go for a walk or run. Call them up and say “Hey friend, let’s do something!”
Want to live a happier life, be more social. Get out and laugh more.

Tomorrow is Big Win Friday. I’d love to hear your big wins for the week.
Be awesome!

Be Big Sexy!
I love you all!

Kahuna Positivity Manifesto – August 3rd, 2016

Good morning Big Sexy people!
Today is one of the happiest memories of my life. It’s MaM’s birthday.
We learned early in our marriage that we may not be able to have our own children. Then we explored the possibility of adoption and connected with an agency on the south side. Michelle and I created a scrapbook for prospective birth parents. We were selected even after their mother found my social media account. Turns out when you’re in your 20’s it difficult to find pictures of yourselves not holding wine glasses.

It was amazing to be able to be there for MaM’s birth. We call her The Monkey because she was born with long, tiny fingers. The name fit because she can climb anything.

We love watching her grow up and be her own person. Growing up a red head is always an adventure. Trust me, I know, I used to be one.

So on this day at 8:03am weighing in at 8 pounds and three ounces, MaM entered our lives ready to take on the world.

Love and cherish your children. They’re our future.

Be awesome!

I love you all!

Big Sexy Manifesto – Sunday, July 30th, 2016

Good morning Big Sexy people.

Sunday is family day for us. We attend church then we do our day. Usually plan a hike or an adventure to a local park.
To me, family is an important thing. We work to build strong relationships with the kids so we have that bond when they get older.

Michelle and I lead by example as well. The kids see how we treat each other and the other members of our family. We both have good relationships with our parents, brothers and sisters.
Whenever the extended family gets together, there is usually a lot of crying from laughing. Although we are spread out across the midwest, we are able to get together a couple times a year around the holidays. We believe it’s important for the kids to have relationships with their aunts, uncles and cousins.
Tips to building stronger relationships with your family.

Active listening

Positive communication

Lot of laughing

Leading by example
What do you do to build stronger relationships in your family?
“Families are like fudge. Mostly sweet with a bunch of nuts.“

Big Sexy Manifesto – Saturday, July 30th, 2016

Good morning Big Sexy people!

Happy Saturday to all of you. I hope you’re all having a great day so far. IMO, if you got up out of bed, it’s a great day.
As those of you with kids start the back to school routines, try and keep it together.
Dads ‘s,

Help your spouses. There’s a lot of moving pieces happening to get the kids ready for school. Reach out to your spouse and ask “What do you need me to do to make this year’s ‘Back to School’ adventure as stress free as possible?” If they don’t need help, don’t offer to “help improve” their system.
Mom’s,

If you need some help, ask us. We all know you’re the commander of the family ship. Tell us what we need to do help make this year’s Back to School adventure less stressful.
Kid’s,

Be cool. This happens every August. (September if you were born in the 70’s). Ask mom and dad what you can do to help as well. Maybe ease up on the public meltdown while shopping for pencils and notebooks. (Do kids still need pencils and notebooks? Or have they switched to tablets and stylus’?)

Families are like small armies. Whether you’re two strong or, like mine, nine strong. We need to show our kids that we all need to help out and work together.

Why?

We need to demonstrate to kids that family success is a team sport. We need to show them how to deal with potentially stressful situations in a positive way through teamwork. In a family, everyone has a job to do.
This picture is from the first day of school in 2013.
How does your family complete the Back to School routine?
